Something I often come across is having to display database fields such as address1,address2,address3,address4,postcode, etc. You’ll want to display this nicely with line breaks but no gaps. This is a useful routine to use:


public string JoinWithLineBreaks(params string[] strings)
{
    return String.Join("
", strings.Where(s => !String.IsNullOrEmpty(s)));
}

You’ll probably want to encode your output:


public static string JoinWithLineBreaks(params string[] strings)
{
    return String.Join("
", strings.Where(s => !String.IsNullOrEmpty(s)).Select(s =>  Server.HtmlEncode(s)));
}

Use it like this…


literalDisplayAddress.Text = r.Name + JoinWithLineBreaks(r.Address1, r.Address2, r.Address3, r.Address4, r.Zip);

Javascript not working in WordPress.

Visual Editor Blank with white text.

After a new wordpress installation, the visual editor would not work, the text was stuck in HTML view and displayed only white-on-white text. + javascript errors ‘switcheditors is not defined’

I found lots of posts relating to this problem but none of the suggestions worked for me.

I tried a brand new installation with no plugins installed but still no luck.

Eventually I realised that it was down to me unzipping the wordpress zip file directly to the IIS windows server. This must have been keeping the unix line breaks…. fine for PHP but corrupting the javascript files.

I fixed it by uploading the wordpress installation via FTP which sorted out the line breaks.

So if anyone else has this problem with IIS, try uploading by FTP, changing the FTP settings or using a different FTP program.

Complementary & Alternative Medical Centre Open Day in Congleton

Interest in complementary and alternative medicine in Britain is continuing to grow and it is estimated that 20% of people in the UK have used an alternative therapy in the last year.

Located on West Street in Congleton, the newly opened Congleton Complementary & Alternative Medical Centre is hosting an open day on Thursday 27^th May 2010. It will be a chance for anyone who wishes to come down to meet the therapists and find out what the centre has to offer.

There will be refreshments, demonstrations and a chance to explore the centre. You can speak to the experienced therapists and learn more about hypnotherapy, acupuncture, reiki, reflexology, NLP, Swedish massage, contour wraps, aromatherapy or the Bowen technique. All therapists are self employed but practice from the same building giving patients a chance to decide which therapy is right for them.

The therapy centre is open to anyone and the event will be running from 9am – late evening.
